The name says it all. Chess Free is a free app that allows users to play chess on their Android phone and tablets. With this app, you can hone your chess playing skills by practicing against the game or challenge your friends and family members to a strategic game of chess.
When using the app in the computer mode, you have twelve options from which to choose. Each option represents a different level of difficulty and presents a new set of challenges for everyone from the beginner to the most advanced chess players. If you choose to play against another person, you will need to be in the same room with him or her so that the two of you may pass the phone or tablet between each other so that each person may take his or her turn. Unfortunately, there is no online multi-player option in Chess Free, so long distance games are not possible.
Players are able to choose their favorite chess boards and pieces from the options offered by the app. Chess Free lets you choose from eight boards and five sets of pieces so you can customize your game to your specific preferences.
If you enjoy playing chess and would like to be able to do so whenever and wherever you want on the Android device of your choice, then Chess Free is a great option for you. Don't let the game's price tag, or lack thereof, fool you. While this app is free, it does not skimp on the features and options it includes.
Pros:
- Play versus the computer or other people
- Choose from different board and piece options
Cons:
- No online multi-player option
